CIG Chinese Summer Camp for the International School of Geneva

From July 1 to July 5, 2024, the five-day Chinese Summer Camp for the International School of Geneva (LGB campus) was successfully held in Geneva, Switzerland. This summer camp was meticulously organized and hosted by CIG, aiming to provide students with a valuable opportunity to immerse themselves in learning Chinese and understanding Chinese culture.

Students participated in a variety of rich and colorful activities during the five-day summer camp.

Day 1: The kids learned Chinese numbers from 1 to 10, engaged in paper cutting and origami, and practiced writing Chinese numbers and their names through calligraphy exercises. In addition, they played the traditional shuttlecock game, watched famous Chinese animated films, and experienced the fun of the string figure game.

Day 2: Students made paper zongzi and practiced writing Chinese in customized CIG notebooks. During sports time, the children played beanbag toss and shuttlecock kicking, followed by a rock climbing challenge. Led by our instructors, the students did panda brush paintings and paper cutting activities, and continued watching Chinese animated films.

Day 3: Students continued practicing calligraphy and made origami frogs. They reviewed the twenty-one Chinese characters learned over the past two days through games, and the teacher introduced ten new characters. The students also practiced writing Chinese, listened to Chinese stories, and participated in discussions. Afterwards, they made Chinese fans and wrote their Chinese names with a brush on specially made red paper.

Day 4: Students made Dragon Boat Festival wreaths by hand and continued learning and practicing Chinese characters. The children also played games like using chopsticks to pick up ping pong balls, kicking shuttlecocks, and tossing beanbags. We took a group photo, painted Chinese dragons with brushes, and ended the day with a fun water fight.

Day 5: The kids continued learning and practicing calligraphy and watched performances by the music and drama groups. Then, the teacher guided them through writing exercises in their notebooks and corrected their work. Finally, they made little handmade stars and Chinese lanterns.

The five days flew by, and the children greatly enjoyed the activities of the Chinese summer camp, embracing our teachers tightly at the end. Parents also expressed their amazement at the changes this camp brought to their children.

Through this enriching summer camp, the children not only learned Chinese but also experienced Chinese culture firsthand, fostering their interest and enthusiasm for learning Chinese. CIG will continue to provide international students with more opportunities to learn Chinese and explore Chinese culture. We look forward to seeing more children benefit from such cultural exchange activities in the future.
