“The Great Journey” Concert Marks the 105th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China in Geneva
On the evening of July 7, 2026, the concert entitled “The Great Journey — 1921–2026: Celebrating the 105th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China” was held at the Conservatoire de musique de Genève.
Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland Qian Minjian attended the event, together with guests from various sectors in Geneva, members of the Chinese community in Switzerland, and Chinese students and scholars.
The concert featured joint performances by the Geneva Chinese Choir and the Choir of the Association of Chinese Students and Scholars in Geneva. Zhao Yuan served as conductor, while Chinese-Swiss pianist Mélodie Zhao performed as piano soloist and accompanist.
Through a programme filled with emotion and energy, the concert looked back on the historic journey of the Communist Party of China since its founding in 1921 and expressed the deep affection of overseas Chinese for their homeland.
The choirs opened the concert with “My Motherland and Me”. The familiar and moving melody filled the concert hall, expressing the profound bond between the Chinese people and their motherland.
This was followed by Mélodie Zhao’s piano performance of the four-movement “Yellow River” Piano Concerto. At times solemn and powerful, and at others surging with energy, the music vividly conveyed the resilience and strength of the Chinese nation in overcoming hardship and advancing through perseverance.
Under the direction of Zhao Yuan, the two choirs concluded the concert with “I Love You, China”. Their powerful and heartfelt singing brought the atmosphere in the hall to a climax and expressed the sincere love and best wishes of overseas Chinese for their country, its landscapes, its history and culture, and its development in the new era.
Combining choral music with piano performance, the concert used music to revisit a century-long journey and celebrate the spirit of dedication and progress. It also demonstrated the unity, vitality and strong connection to China shared by the Chinese community and Chinese students in Switzerland.
The event created a solemn and celebratory atmosphere for the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, while also contributing to cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the peoples of China and Switzerland.
