Children’s Guzheng Class Description

Our goal is to nurture confident players capable of performing multiple beginner and intermediate-level pieces, eventually developing high-level performance and cultural communication skills in international Guzheng talents.

Course Content
The course is designed with carefully crafted activities to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the Guzheng’s historical background and cultural value, while mastering basic skills from scratch to independent performance of simple pieces. Key aspects include:
- Basic Skill Training: Teaching correct posture, hand positions, and the twenty fundamental Guzheng finger techniques to lay a solid foundation for further learning. Lively methods are used to introduce the basics of reading numbered musical notation and rhythm, making music theory easy to understand for beginners.
- Simple Songs for Beginners: Starting with well-known children’s songs such as “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” and “Two Tigers,” gradually transitioning to classic Guzheng pieces like “Liuyang River” and “High Mountains, Flowing Water,” to help students quickly get started.
- Cultural Exploration and Appreciation: Delving into the history of the Guzheng and its influence in China and worldwide, while sharing knowledge points related to Chinese traditional culture to spark learners’ interest in Guzheng music.
- Improving Performance Techniques: Enhancing performance skills from basic finger exercises to complete renditions of compositions, and specialized training for specific styles or techniques, comprehensively boosting students’ playing levels.
- Cultural Exchange: A special section titled “Guzheng Meets World Classics” encourages students to use this traditional Chinese instrument to play internationally renowned melodies, promoting cross-cultural exchange.
