Closing ceremony of the Sichuan Summer Camp of the Chinese Roots Journey in 2023

The Sichuan Summer Camp of the “Journey in Search of Chinese Roots” in 2023 is a brand event for international cultural exchange organized by the China Overseas Exchange Association and enjoys an excellent reputation among overseas Chinese. This time, the summer camp attracted the participation of 295 accompanying teachers and Chinese youth from 13 countries, including the United States, France, Switzerland and Spain.

At the closing ceremony, Ms. ZHU Chunxiu, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the provincial People’s Congress, attended and delivered a warm speech, encouraging the participants to become ambassadors and heirs of Chinese culture. The participants, together with their partners from all over the world, presented their varied talents at the closing ceremony, thus bringing the event to a high light.

The children of the Chinese Language Education Foundation of Geneva, Switzerland, opened the ball by performing on stage alongside participants from England, the United States and other countries. They offered an energetic performance entitled “Compendium of Materia Medica,” immediately igniting the entire audience. Our students, Huang Taixi and Yang Ruixuan, as lead singers, accompanied by Wu Ziau who introduced the “Qi Mei Gun” baton technique, were the choir directors.

The Closing Ceremony not only featured remarkable performances, it also witnessed the award given to Yang Ruixuan of the Chinese Language Education Foundation of Geneva in the micro-video competition of the Chengdu University Games. Among the thousands of micro-videos in competition, 22 micro-videos from overseas Chinese schools were selected, and Yang Ruixuan’s was particularly brilliant.

Our thanks go to the China Overseas Exchange Association, the Sichuan Overseas Chinese Federation and the Zigong Overseas Chinese Federation for their generous support. The “Journey in Search of Chinese Roots” Summer Camp has built a cultural bridge between China and abroad through various cultural exchange activities. By learning joyfully, participants not only made valuable friendships, but also grew up. The activities of the summer camp not only broadened their horizons and strengthened their practical skills, but also allowed them to have an in-depth experience of the perfect integration of traditional Chinese culture and modern Chinese culture. This deep immersion has sparked the love of overseas Chinese youth for the culture of their roots and will be an important force for the preservation of Chinese culture in the future.
