2018 CHINESE NEW YEAR GALA IN HUNAN CHANGSHA   [09.02.2018]

Mrs. Jun CHU, the President and Founder of CIG, participated in the 2018 Spring Festival Gala for overseas Chinese in Changsha, Hunan province.

The 2018 “Culture of China, Festival of Spring” Chinese New Year Gala for overseas Chinese was recorded in Changsha on the evening of January 30, 2018. It was authorized and instructed by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China. It has been the fourth year of celebration. Over the past four years, the Hunan Spring Festival Gala for overseas Chinese has gained growing influence both domestic and abroad. The theme of this year is “Happy Families Welcoming to Happiness”. It highlights the theme from the perspectives of country, ethnic groups, and individuals, well presenting traditional Chinese cultural inheritance and development overseas. Mr. Jiahao DU, the Secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the Chairman of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress, and Mr. Yuanping QIU, the Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, watched the performances on the scene and extended New Year greetings to overseas Chinese.

Many overseas Chinese representatives and entrepreneurs were invited from across the world to the gala. Mrs. Jun CHU, representing Chinese Institute Geneva Foundation of Switzerland, was invited as one of the guests for this big event. Mrs. CHU was interviewed by Mr. Weijia LI (a famous host at Hunan TV), and shared the recent good news of CIG with the audience: in December 2017, CIG has been awarded the honorary title of “Chinese Education Model School” by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council at the 4th International Conference on Chinese Education in Beijing. Mr. Yousheng XU (Deputy Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council) granted the honorary plaque to Mrs. CHU. Mr. Yuanping QIU, the Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, witnessed this historic moment for CIG. During the interview, Mrs. CHU pointed out that overseas Chinese education had a long way to go. CIG would make persistent effort and build a bridge between China and Switzerland to promote cultural exchanges. At the end of the interview, Mrs. CHU extended her best wishes to all on the arrival of the Chinese New Year. Appointed by Mr. Zhengang LEI (the Director General of Culture Department of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council), Mrs. CHU is the one and only representative on behalf of more than 20000 overseas Chinese schools around the world. Mrs. CHU’s interview received lavish praise from Mr. Yuanping QIU, the Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, who was also at the scene of recording.

This gala will be broadcast on Hunan TV on 16th February (the 1st day of 2018 on the Chinese lunar calendar). We are looking forward to a high-quality Spring Festival Gala, conveying both cultural and fashionable connotations through traditional opera, acrobatics, intangible cultural heritage items, singing and dancing, and magic shows.
