On July 14, 2023, the weather was beautiful, and everyone welcomed a new day of the summer camp “Journey to Discover Chinese Roots” in Zigong under a rare and pleasant cool weather.
Early in the morning, Professor Yang Zhihua led the students to visit the majestic Rongxian Big Buddha.
This rock sculpture dating back to the Tang Dynasty is built on the mountainside, with the temple leaning against the Buddha statue, offering a magnificent view. The locals call it the Great Buddha of Leshan for its grandeur, and the Beautiful Buddha of Rongxian for its beauty. The students slowly climbed the terraced stairs to appreciate the beauty of the ancient art of sculpture while learning the rich knowledge of Buddhism.
At lunch, they savored the local culinary delights at the Rongzhou Hotel, leaving an unforgettable taste. Then, they visited the Rongxian Creative Pottery Park, where they experienced the art of pottery on a potter’s wheel and fully enjoyed the pleasure of ceramic art creation.
After a short break, they went to the exhibition at Wu Yuzhang’s residence to deepen their knowledge of the remarkable life of this revolutionary and educator of the previous generation. Inside the exhibition, students were impressed and inspired by Mr. Wu Yuzhang’s achievements and contributions, thus receiving a profound education.
At dinner, they had a pleasant time at the Jianguo Hotel. Then, they all learned Chinese calligraphy with a brush, thus deepening their study of Chinese culture. The students gave free rein to their emotions and thoughts by handling the brush, discovering the unique charm of the art of Chinese calligraphy.
After this day, the students not only discovered the beautiful scene of Zigong on their journey in search of their roots, but they also gained rich knowledge and valuable experience during these cultural exchanges.
