CIG at the 2024 United Nations Chinese Language Day Celebration
On April 23, 2024, the Palais des Nations in Geneva hosted a grand celebration—the United Nations Chinese Language Day. CIG participated in the event, with Director Chu Jun, Principal Sun Zhimin and Teacher Wang Cuizhu representing the school.
This event was jointly organized by the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in Geneva, the United Nations Office at Geneva, China Central Television (CCTV), the Department of Culture and Tourism of Hunan Province, and the Publicity Department of the Nanjing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China. It attracted over 300 guests from diplomatic missions in Geneva, relevant international organizations, and domestic and foreign media. At the event, Ambassador Chen Xu and the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Valovaya, delivered speeches, while the Director of China Central Television, Shen Haixiong, sent congratulations via video.
Attendees received a special gift – the mascot “Cangbao”, a design inspired by a turtle, symbolizing reverence for Chinese characters.
The on-site “Growing Chinese Characters” art exhibition also captured the attention of guests. By integrating traditional Chinese characters with contemporary digital media and innovative design, the exhibition showcased the unique charm of Chinese character art.
Guests experienced the youthful vitality emanating from ancient Chinese characters and felt the boundless potential of Chinese character culture in creative design, sparking new thoughts and understanding about Chinese character culture.
The “Thousand Miles of Xiaoxiang” ethnic music concert on that day showcased various dimensions of outstanding traditional Chinese culture. Young musicians from the Hunan Song and Dance Theater presented a passionate and rhythmic ethnic music concert for the guests.
That evening, in coordination with the United Nations Chinese Language Day activities, the Bank of China also hosted a “Thousand Miles of Xiaoxiang” ethnic music concert at the Geneva Conservatory of Music. They used traditional instruments and modern playing techniques to interpret ancient melodies, eliciting waves of applause and admiration from the audience.
