Session 1 : basic music and perceptual training

Target:

  • Cultivate children’s initial understanding of music, and establish rhythm and pitch perception.
  • Stimulate interest in music through simple music theory and instrumental contact.

Course Schedule:

  1. Week 1: Music Welcome
    • Introduce different types of musical instruments, play music games, and let children perceive the rhythm and pitch of music through games.
  2. Week 2: Rhythm Exploration
    • Recognize beats (2/4 time, 3/4 time) and practice basic rhythmic patterns through body rhythms and percussion instruments (tambourine, shakers, etc.).
  3. Week 3: Recognize the notes
    • Teach your child to recognize basic notes (whole notes, quarter notes, half notes) and deepen their memory with simple note games.
  4. Week 4: Feel the pitch
    • Learn the difference between treble and bass and experience the sound of different pitches through the piano or melodica.
  5. Week 5: Body Movement & Music
    • Perform simple rhythm games with music to develop a sense of rhythm and body coordination.
  6. Week 6: Introduction to Basic Music Theory
    • Learn the basics of notation structure, recognize staves and note placement.
  7. Week 7: Pitch and Melody
    • Practice simple melodies (Doremi) on keyboard instruments and understand pitch changes through a combination of listening and playing.
  8. Week 8: Percussion playing
    • Rhythm play using small percussion instruments (tambourine, xylophone, etc.) and children try to work together to complete simple plays.
  9. Week 9: Simple sight-singing exercises
    • Sight-singing practice using scales (doremi) to develop intonation and tonality.
  10. Week 10: Review & Play
  • Review the previous weeks with music games to consolidate your knowledge of rhythm and notes.
  1. Week 11: Initiation of music creation
  • Let children create their own music based on simple melodies or rhythmic fragments.
  1. Week 12: Small Presentations and Parent Involvement
  • Organize children to show their learning results during the semester for parents to observe and participate in the interaction.

Session 2 : in-depth musical technique and performance

Target:

  • Further improve children’s knowledge of music theory, enhance performance skills, and cultivate the perception and expression ability of music.

Course Schedule:

  1. Week 1: Review & Advanced Notes
    • Review notes and rhythms, introduce more notes (eighth notes, rests), and practice through the instrument.
  2. Week 2: Simple sheet music reading
    • Teach children how to read sheet music, combining the notes and rhythms they have learned, and start reading simple melodies.
  3. Week 3: Scale practice and ear training
    • Practice scales on a keyboard or other instrument to train your ear to discern pitch changes.
  4. Week 4: Performance Skills Training
    • Improve your child’s skills on the keyboard or percussion instrument, focusing on finger dexterity and coordination.
  5. Week 5: Simple Harmony
    • Introduce simple harmony concepts, teach children how to play simple harmony on an instrument, and understand multi-part music.
  6. Week 6: Collaboration & Group Performance
    • Let the children work together in groups to complete small instrumental ensembles and develop teamwork skills.
  7. Week 7: Sight-singing and rhythmic intensification
    • Sight-singing exercises of increasing difficulty, with an emphasis on complex rhythmic patterns (mixed tempos, dotted rhythms).
  8. Week 8: Rhythmic improvisation
    • Let the children improvise on percussion instruments to develop a sense of rhythm and creativity.
  9. Week 9: Introduction to musical styles
    • Introduce different musical styles (e.g. classical, pop, jazz, etc.) and let the children try to play small pieces with different styles.
  10. Week 10: Self-Creation
    • Children are encouraged to create short pieces of music based on their favorite notes and rhythms.
  11. Week 11: Rehearsal & Preparation
    • Rehearse for the final presentation, where the children choose their favorite pieces to perform.
  12. Week 12: End of semester presentation
    • Parents and friends are invited to participate in the music demonstration, and the children show what they have learned in this session.

Session 3 : diversified music experience and stage performance

Target:

  • Through a variety of music experiences, children can expand their musical horizons and cultivate their musical performance and expression skills.

Course Schedule:

  1. Week 1: Review and development of musical rhythms
    • Review the rhythm and notes of the first two periods, increase the complexity of the rhythm, learn legato, syncopation, etc.
  2. Week 2: Improvisation
    • Through improvisation and creation of musical instruments, children’s perception of music and free expression ability are enhanced.
  3. Week 3: Music and dance combined
    • Introduce simple dance movements into music to help children understand the rhythm and emotional expression of music.
  4. Week 4: Exploring World Music Cultures
    • Introduce music from all over the world (e.g. African drumming, Latin music, traditional Chinese instruments) and let children experience a variety of musical forms.
  5. Week 5: Playing Harmony and Simple Ensemble
    • Develop teamwork and musical coordination skills through group work, playing simple harmonies or ensemble pieces.
  6. Week 6: Musical Theatre & Performing Arts
    • Let children learn how to express musical emotions on stage and develop the ability to combine music and performance through performing musical theater clips.
  7. Week 7: Stage Performance Training
    • Teach children how to express confidence and musical emotion in performance, and train them in stage performance skills.
  8. Week 8: Rehearsals and preparation for the show
    • Continue to rehearse and prepare for the final musical performance and performance activities, and the children choose their favorite music for rehearsal.
  9. Week 9: Stage Practice
    • Let the children simulate a stage performance and practice their performance and self-confidence in front of an audience.
  10. Week 10: Composition & Improvisation
  • Improvisation and performance are combined with children’s musical understanding, allowing them to express their musical imagination freely.
  1. Week 11: Final rehearsal and commissioning
  • Rehearse all the pieces intensively, making final adjustments and improvements.
  1. Week 12: Big Stage Presentation
  • A large debriefing performance was held, where children demonstrated the musical skills and performing arts they had learned throughout the school year on stage.
