Session 4: World Music Culture and Creation

Target:

  • Expand children’s understanding of Chinese and Western music cultures and stimulate creativity.
  • Enhance your expressive skills through music composition and performance.

Course Schedule:

  1. Lesson 1: Introduction to World Music Culture
    • Introduce music cultures from all over the world, such as African drumming, Latin music, traditional Chinese music, etc.
  2. Lesson 2: Experience of national musical instruments
    • Let the children experience musical instruments of different cultures, such as African drums, marimba, Chinese chimes, etc., and feel the diverse musical elements.
  3. Lesson 3: Improvisational music composition
    • Through percussion or keyboard instruments, children are allowed to improvise and stimulate their musical creativity.
  4. Lesson 4: Collaborative Creation and Performance
    • Children work in groups to compose simple pieces of music, which they present and play.
  5. Lesson 5: Rhythm and melody creation
    • Instruct children to create their own melodies and rhythms, which are expressed through instruments and singing.
  6. Lesson 6: Fusion of Chinese and Western Music
    • Let the children try to integrate Chinese and Western music elements to create music with cultural fusion characteristics.

Session 5: Learning Chinese and Western Classic Songs and Melodies

Target:

  • Learn Chinese and Western classic songs, and understand melody, rhythm and emotional expression.
  • Improve your child’s singing skills and music appreciation.

Course Schedule:

  1. Lesson 1: Introduction and appreciation of classic songs
    • Introducing classic Chinese and Western children’s songs, such as “Jasmine” and “Little Star”.
    • Feel the melody and emotional expression of the song by listening to different versions of the rendition.
  2. Lesson 2: Basic Singing Skills Training
    • Learn the proper way to make sounds, such as how to use breathing to support your voice.
    • Improve the pitch and control of singing through simple vocal exercises.
  3. Lesson 3: Learn to sing “Jasmine”
    • Learn to sing the classic Chinese song “Jasmine” and understand its melodic structure and emotion.
    • Through segmented learning, grasp the emotional changes in the song.
  4. Lesson 4: Learn to sing “Little Star”
    • Learn to sing the classic Western nursery rhyme “Little Star” and improve pitch perception by imitating melody.
    • Practice how to express emotions at different volumes and speeds.
  5. Lesson 5: Rhythm and song combined
    • Use percussion instruments to rhythm classic songs to help children understand the combination of rhythm and melody.
    • Improve your ability to control the rhythm by matching the rhythm pattern with the song.
  6. Lesson 6: Multi-part choral practice
    • Let the children try simple harmonic chorus, and add layers to the song by singing in rounds or splitting voices.

  10. Lesson 10: Chinese and Western classic songs
    • The children showed the classic songs they learned in this session and performed a small singing performance.

Session 6: Integrated Music Performance and Personal Expression

Target:

  • Prepare for the annual performance and develop your child’s comprehensive musical skills.
  • Through performance and creation, children’s self-confidence and musical expression skills are enhanced.

Course Schedule:

  1. Lesson 1: Review and Annual Show Planning
    • Review the content of previous installments and review the rhythms, music theory, songs, and performance techniques you have learned.
    • Develop a plan for the annual show, determine the repertoire to be performed and assign tasks.
  2. Lesson 2: Song performance rehearsal
    • Rehearse the songs for the show to ensure that each child is familiar with their roles and tasks.
    • Improve your child’s ability to work together and coordinate in a team.
  3. Lesson 3: Personalized Performance Creation
    • Each child chooses a favorite musical element (e.g., singing, percussion, melody) and personalizes it.
    • Help children express themselves and express their individuality in music creation.
  4. Lesson 4: The combination of song and instrument
    • Singing is accompanied by simple musical instruments (such as tambourine, shakers, etc.) to develop children’s multi-task coordination skills.
    • Songs are soundtracked with percussion instruments to enhance the fun of the performance.
